About Simon Logan

I am the author of the industrial fiction novels Katja From The Punk BandPretty Little Things To Fill Up The Void, the industrial short story collections I-O and Nothing Is Inflammable and the fetishcore collection Rohypnol Brides, as well as many other short stories.

I began writing in the UK and international indy presses in 1998 and quickly started getting published in them, mainly in horror and slipstream-themes outlets.

After a while I came to the conclusion that I had been writing the same cliched stories as so many others had, replicating stories that have already been written several hundred times as if we had all be infected by some sort of semi-concious self-replicating virus. I began to feel my way around for fiction that was more me and wrote partofit, one of the stories to feature in I-O.

I thought about it a little more and decided that this was an area I wanted to get into. I wanted to create a literary version of what Trent Reznor does with NIN and started writing some industrial stuff. Ignition was the first piece to be completed and totally invigorated me. The more I thought and wrote about industrial fiction the more I knew I was doing something that interested and inspired me but was also vaguely different.

The resulting collection I-O was published in February 2002 by Prime Books of Ohio and this continues to get positive feedback to this day.  This was followed up in February 2004 by a novella, The Decadent Return Of The Hifi Queen And Her Embryonic Reptile Infection, which was published as a split novel by Eraserhead Press.

I followed this up with two new collections in April 2006, one of industrial fiction, Nothing Is Inflammable, and one of fetishcore fiction, Rohypnol Brides, again published by Prime Books.

My first novel, Pretty Little Things To Fill Up The Void, is was published by Prime in late 2007 and is the culmination of the sketch work that my industrial short stories effectively were.  It took me about two years to write, start to finish, and I am currently doing whatever I can to spread the word about it and get reviews for it.

After finishing that first full-length n*vel, I went on to write a follow up short novel, Katja From The Punk Band, which was deliberately lighter in tone and quicker in narrative style and was published in April 2010 by ChiZine Publications.  It is now available as a trade paperback, Kindle edition and electronic download (check out the Katja page for more information).

I have also completed the first draft of a more mainstream short novel called Molly, which is sitting on my computer ready for a heavily revised second draft when I can get around to it. My current focus is on another n*vel length project, Guerra, which expands more fully upon one of the subtly touched upon aspects of Pretty Little Things To Fill Up The Void - that of pirate broadcasters.  Set in an unnamed city choking itself on radio and TV signals, literal battles take place between the official broadcasters and the renegade pirate ones to get their messages out to the masses.  You can find out more about it in the fiction section of this site.
