KATJA FTPB Progress and Raffle Winner

February 8th, 2010

So things are still progressing nicely with Katja From The Punk Band with the pre-order phase for the book now over and the sig sheets are about to start winging their way to me.

I’m also pleased to announce that the winner of the raffle fo those who pre-ordered a hardcover copy of KFTPB is Steve Cuckney from Ramsgate in Kent so congrats to you Steve.  I’ll be sticking your prize, a signed edition of the Russian translation of I-O and some of my other stories, in the post tomorrow so look out for it!

SF Site Featured Review of Cinema Spec

February 8th, 2010

SF site have a review of Cinema Spec online now which features my story Nuclear Shadows.

“The ultra-short stories manage to cling together and coalesce into a strange dystopian image of what people believe Hollywood to be. They’re a quick read, but form a cohesive fantasy world that is not only an homage but a sly parody and tribute to the silver screen….”

Bonus Short Story for KATJA completed

February 3rd, 2010

Just finished the very final revision (pre-editing, anyway) of FKU, the bonus short story which will feature in the special-with-a-capital-S hardcover edition of KATJA FROM THE PUNK BAND so that has now been handed over to Brett Savory over at ChiZine.

Clocked in at just under 8K which was longer than I’d originally intended but I added in a few more layers and scenes during the last week which I hope flesh out the story a little more.  Hopefully it’ll be a worthwhile bonus for those of you who have bought it.

In other news I used the website www.random.org to randomly generate the number of the order of the hardcover which will win the signed Russian edition of IO – details will follow shortly on who exactly that lucky, lucky person is!

Missed out on your chance to pre-order before the January 31st deadline?  Then why not pre-order the trade paperback edition now available from Amazon.com and others.  (It doesn’t have the bonus short story and soundtrack listing but it does have 220 pages of Logan loveliness!)

Only 5 Days Left For Katja Pre-Orders!

January 25th, 2010

Katja From The Punk BandA quick reminder to anyone who hasn’t already pre-ordered their copy that my latest novel KATJA FROM THE PUNK BAND is currently still available for pre-order at HorrorMall.com but only for the next 5 days!  After that you will only be able to get your own copy of the hardcover by theft, the black market or possibly time travel.

This exclusive edition features a brand-new story, FKU, written specifically for the hardcover as well as a soundtrack listing for anyone wanting to accompany it!

Not only that but anyone who places a pre-order will be entered into a prize-draw for a signed copy of the extremely rare Russian translation of my work which features all of the stories from I-O as well as several more from Nothing Is Inflammable.  It’s a cool little book with a bizarre little cover and you have a chance of winning a copy by heading over to HorrorMall now!

If you’ve like my work in the past then you should hopefully love this – and remember to recommend it to anyone else you think might be interested.  Just tell them quickly!

KTFB was HorrorMall’s second top-selling book during November when it was first released so lets make sure it has a strong finish and get it to the top in January too!

For more information check out HorrorMall.com or my own (recently Katja-pimped!) website www.coldandalone.com .

Katja FTPB Hardcover – Time Is Running Out!

January 4th, 2010

Okay everyone, now that the holiday season is behind us it’s time to get your rotten little fingers out and grab your copy of the Katja From The Punk Band hardcover whilst you still can – orders are only open until the end of this month and once that time has passed you won’t be able to order a copy anywhere!

Remember that as well as being a beautifully-produced edition that will be extremely limited and rare it will also featured several extra goodies that will only appear in this edition and not the paperback when that is released later in the year.  We’re still finalising exactly what those goodies will be but they will definitely include a brand new short story written exclusively for the hardback edition.

In addition I’m going to be running an extra special prize of a signed copy of the Russian translation of I-O.  I’ll publish the full details of this unique prize over the next few days but basically anybody who pre-orders a copy of the hardcover edition will be automatically entered with a chance to win as long as we hit my own personal target of copies pre-ordered.  We’re certainly on our way to that target but still need to keep pushing.  That means that if you haven’t already bought your copy or if you know of anyone who would dig a copy themselves go out and grab it before the end of the month both to ensure that the target is hit and also that you will have a chance of winning the signed Russian edition.

(Don’t worry if you’ve already ordered your copy before this comp was announced, your entry will still be valid).

Katja From The Punk band was the second top-selling pre-order book in November when it was initially released on Horror Mall so let’s make it the number one selling pre-order for it’s final month of January!

Fantasy Magazine Best Story Poll – Vote For La Mer!

January 4th, 2010

Fantasy Magazine have just announced that they are running a poll for the best story they featured last year on their website and my story La Mer, republished from an earlier incarnation of the print version is in the running.  And what’s even better is that there’s something in it for you!

So here’s the deal …

Head on over to the poll and vote for La Mer as the best story of the year – quick and easy!  What you can also do, however, is leave a comment about the story (or for any other story on the site, for that matter – but lets not talk about them…) on their site and you will automatically be entered into a prize draw for an Amazon gift certificate!  The more comments you leave the more chance you have of winning although you only get one entry per story (so if you leave several comments on La Mer you’ll only be entered once but if you leave a comment for several stories then you’ll be entered several times).  Max number of entries is 10.

The comments have to be more than just a basic “great story” but beyond that feel free to write whatever you want. If you’ve not already read the story then you can check it out here first.

Now off you toddle…

Happy Xmas!

December 25th, 2009

Happy Christmas everyone! hope you all have a good one.

Bonus Content for Katja FTPB

December 11th, 2009

Got an email from Brett Savory over at ChiZine Publications this morning asking for ideas for potential bonus material to include with the hardcover edition of Katja From The Punk Band to give those shelling out for it a little some extra.

Brett’s suggestions included some artwork, an interview or a short story but I thought I’d throw it open to you lot to see if you had any ideas or suggestions for something you’d like to see?  Are author interviews of any interest?  Would you prefer to hear specifically about the evolution of that novel itself or just have general chat?  What about a virtual soundtrack for the book with a listing of music tracks to listen to at certain points in the book?

I don’t have a suitable story sitting by but could maybe see about getting my arse in gear and quickly writing one, as either a prologue, epilogue or even a complementary short story featuring the novel’s characters (or not..)?

So whether you’ve already pre-ordered the book or are planning on doing so, or even if you have no interest in Katja FTPB itself, what, as a reader, would you like to see as bonus content in a book?

CZP Announce Amazing Distro Deal

December 7th, 2009

Just heard from Brett Savory over at ChiZine Publications that they’ve struck an amazing deal with Diamond Book Distributors for both UK and US distribution of their books!

What this means is that CZP’s books will be far more readily available in both the US and the UK and this includes Katja From The Punk Band as the deal will cover existing and future releases for them.

You can find out the full deal here but it’s great news for them and in that regard for me too!

Katja #2 in Horror Mall Pre-Sales Chart

December 2nd, 2009

Just heard from Brett Savory over at ChiZine Publications that Katja From The Punk Band is the number two bestselling pre-order book on Horror Mall (where it is being sold exclusively) for November!  Apparently this is the best position that they have achieved so far for a pre-order of one of their books and I think it’s as much to do with CZP’s rapidly-rising profile as anything else but it’s a great start so thanks to any of you who have put your order in.  (And as Brett himself pointed out, the number one slot was in fact taken by a discount subscription to future hardcover releases from Morning Star Publications which doesn’t even count as a real book …!)

Pre-orders are still being taken until 31st January 2010, exclusively at Horror Mall, so with the holidays approaching time will quickly run out if you want to get your copy.  Why not stick it on your Xmas list or go grab a copy for friends or family who you think might be interested?  Once the pre-order period has passed there will be no more copies printed so don’t miss out and let’s make sure this baby moves into the number one spot and stays there over the Xmas period!
