I-O

I-O was my first real publication aside from short stories in anthologies and zines and was the result of me starting to explore and mix other genres that interested me more than straightforward horror, where I made my start.

Originally accepted by Imaginary Worlds, the collection was eventually published by Prime Books in February 2002 after Prime bought out IW and most of the books it was due to publish.

Since then I-O has been one of Prime's most consistantly selling titles, even now, a few years after its initial publication and has garnered some great reviews from some very respected outlets.

But I-O was only the start.

I-O was the results of my first experiments with industrial fiction. i put the collection together when i felt i had enough stories to offer and it was accepted by Steve Savile's Imaginary Worlds Independant Press in February of 2001. After a number of problems with IW, I-O was then transferred over to Prime Books and at the end of January 2002 the book was made available via all the usual outlets.

The stories range from obscure Science Friction to punkhead, from obsessive love to ballads of self-destruction and focus on a landscape of twisted, burnt metal, self-mutilation and static ghosts.

Russian Translation

I-O Russian TranslationA few years after I-O was first published a Russian publisher called U-Factoria approached Prime Books and bought the Russian language rights to the work.

After a rather elongated process that took place over almost four years and involved U-Factoria going bust then being reborn then being bought over the Russian translation of I-O finally saw the light of day in mid-2008.

Sporting a rather interesting cover the book features all of the stories in I-O plus some gathered from Nothing Is Inflammable.  You can only get it in Russian online stores at the moment but for anyone interested you can check it out here!

Dear Simon,

My name is Anna and I'm from Russia. I've just read your book I-O. I'm very impressed of your style! I want to say "I'm in love" but it sounds stupid ;) I-O is the best thing I've ever read! I thought that Palahniuk is God of modern literature, but now I know that there's better writer!
I'm fond of industrial subculture and your stories are like music for me! I enjoy every word, every sound, every color from your stories!
I'm really crazy about Ignition, Coaxial-Creature and story about Luka and Ilena (I can't find corresponding English title :( ).
Now when I know about this website, I'm going to try read your fiction in the original. My friends already hate me because I've made them all to read I-O, but they don't understand it! It makes me angry when people can't see beauty in these stories.

oops, I suppose it's too long for comment ;)

Many-many thanks for your books!
I'm looking forward to see all of them translated to Russian one day.

;)
